The best thing about surfing when I started was that there was virtually nobody over mid-twenties involved. It was our world. We only had to compete with each other and there was no-one telling us how to do.it. A 13 year old at Nazare is just where we are up to in making surfing just like everything else. We had real choices about how things could have progressed but we opted into mainstream culture and....yawn....became just another bunch of conformist hedonists.
I'd say the risk is much, much greater of a 60 foot wave compared to pistes, but its true he isn't really putting anyone else in danger
