Hey Ben. What about the River Severn Bore wave. Who are these people that surf it? Is it actual surfing? What happens if they fall and how do they get back to the start?

Hey Dan, good question - its so well known its not real a novelty and hard core bunch of surfers, kayakers, SUP etc surf it, or ride it, every time it breaks. When you fall or it dies, you hop in car and head down river to the next take-off spot. This shows it really well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5d3nD0c1IE

But you'd like Mad Jack Churchill, one of Britain’s, bravest, maddest and most decorated war heroes, as well as one its early surfing pioneers. He served in various posts in the Military and was famous for leading World War 2 battles armed with longbow, bagpipes and a Scottish broadsword. After being captured by the Germans (whilst playing his bagpipes in a final act of defiance) he twice escaped from concentration camps. Post war he spent some time in Australia where he learned to surf. He returned to England, designed his own surfboards and was the first man to surf the Severn Bore, alone, in 1955.
